2013 Software Advice EMR Market Share Report
As HITECH Act funds continue to be dispersed to qualified medical providers, it’s become much easier to track the EMR market size and share. That’s because the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) now tracks EMR adoption. Recently, the research firm Software Advice pulled this CMS data to create a market share report analyzing the EMR software vendor landscape.
The report found that, to date, 115,918 eligible professionals (EPs) in outpatient settings have attested for meaningful use (MU). Of these EPs, 107,112 attested for a complete EMR while the remainder (8,806) attested for a modular EMR.
So, who are the top EMR vendors supporting these MU attestations? The table below profiles the top 10 vendors and their corresponding market share by number of MU attestations.
While this information is based on a somewhat limited data set (i.e., it excludes non-eligible professionals from calculations) the data is one of the most accurate representations of the market to currently available as it relies on a single definition of eligible professionals, which can be interpreted variably. Meanwhile, EMR vendors tend to use a wide range of criteria to calculate the size of their customer base, making it notoriously difficult to make apples-to-apples comparisons.
